A Little Test Spin

I can't really post about all my projects this week, since I am saving them for surprises, but I will share this test spin I have done to see how I like these two singles together, and to show how I am getting the hang of plying with my new wheel. I have learned my lesson after the first run through, where I plied TONS of yardage and hadn't given it quite enough twist when I was spinning the singles to account for the back spin when plying and I wasn't 100% thrilled with the results. This time I'm adding a little zing, the bright pink, which on it's own is a real eye opener, to balance out the far too muted but pretty, pinkish buff tones of the other single. The pink bobbin is a blend of fine wool and alpaca. The beige bobbin is natural Romney (80%) Kid Mohair (10%) and Tussah Silk (10%.) Originally I had plied the beige to itself, but it lost all it's magic when plied, the two together are a good balance. Now, on to plying what remains on the bobbins!

Have a great week! Good luck with all your projects, plans and adventures!!!

Strawberry Rhubarb Jam!!!

I made my first batch of strawberry rhubarb jam of the season this week! I was dragging my feet a bit so that I could use some of the rhubarb from my own plant, this is the first year I am able to harvest any of the stalks!

Ahhh, I love to see those pretty jars, though some of them have already found new homes! It turned out quite yummy if I do say so myself.

Well you can't have freshly made jam without some lovely little scones can you? Someone put the kettle on!

Have a great week, wherever your wanderings may take you! (And I know some of you are quite the wanderers!)

This Weeks Projects

This week was the long awaited and eagerly anticipated punch needle embroidery class at Country Needleworks! You can see the little practice piece we worked on in class it was great fun! I look forward to drawing my own designs and framing them up all over the place!!!

At long last I have figured out this little bootie, I actually ended up changing it from the original pattern, but the look and the idea is similar. And I have crocheted a shell pattern hat to accompany the booties, both are a new arrival gift for little Miss Molly, the adorable new baby of a sweet couple I know. I added the double, flat crocheted flowers as an embellishment. Both items are knitted/crocheted using Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo in cream color, which was a dream to work with! I can see myself using it again and again, I love bamboo, this one is blended with a bit of wool, no harm there. I think I shall nearly be able to complete the entire set from one ball, I'll let you know, I must knit the other bootie now that I have work out a pattern I am happy with.

That's just a little snippet of what I've been working on, I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Blessings Friends!

(I should mention that I was unable to post last week because I was having my computer upgraded. Missed you!)
